Happy Independence Day everyone! To celebrate this momentous day, we have decided to brief you all with an awe inspiring, historic and perhaps a tad boastful lesson on our country:
240 years ago on July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Since that day, this fine country has accomplished the unfathomable, including the formation of the trans-oceanic cable communication system in 1858 (yes, we made global calls a thing), construction of the modern submarine in 1900, the first successful flight in 1903 (thank you Wright Brothers), construction of the Panama Canal in 1914 (not too many people can say they’ve connected oceans before), creation of the nuclear reactor in 1942, the first successful mission to the moon in 1969 (this was definitely “one giant leap for mankind”), production of the cellphone in 1973 (yes, there was a time when we lived without these wonderful contraptions), and generation of the internet around 1985 (high five america!). The United States is also one of the few (if not only) countries to home several wonderful things, such as freedom of speech, the super bowl, free refills, guns, ice, college sports, white bread, tipping, freedom of religion, bigger serving sizes, cheese in a can, and so much more! Now of course, we realize that we are far from the perfect country and many outsiders may find us a tad strange and loud from time to time, but even though we have our quirks, we’re still pretty proud of this truly inspiring country of ours. We love you America!
